India Ratnagiri Estate
This exceptional coffee is produced at Ratnagiri Estate, a historic farm in India where traditional farming meets cutting-edge innovation. The name “Ratnagiri” means “Pearl Mountain” in Hindi, a reference to the shimmering silver oak canopy that shades the farm’s coffee trees.
Established in 1920, Ratnagiri Estate has been passed down through three generations and is now owned and managed by Ashok Patre. A progressive, well-traveled farmer, Ashok integrates global best practices into Indian coffee cultivation, continually experimenting to elevate quality. The estate monitors Brix levels before harvest and employs a range of processing methods — including natural, honey, traditional washed, and experimental fermentations.
Ratnagiri Estate operates as a biodynamic and organic farm, officially certified by the Rainforest Alliance. Quarterly soil tests and organic amendments ensure long-term soil health. To naturally enhance plant immunity and boost sugar levels in the coffee cherries, Ashok uses ionic seawater and seaweed extract.
Set within a thriving, three-layer forest ecosystem, the estate is a haven for biodiversity. Over 48 bird species and numerous wild animals — including monkeys, leopards, wild boars, tigers, mongooses, and even elephants — make their home here. This rich biodiversity underscores the Patre family's commitment to ecological harmony in every aspect of their farming.
